It’s Monday again – Ugh!  I have the hardest time getting up in the morning, but Mondays are by far the worst.  Usually I stay up too late Sunday night (because I slept in that morning) so I make do on 4 or 5 hours of shut eye.  Sleep deprivation does not improve my opinion of Mondays.  I am an optimist though, so I believe one day (maybe not a Monday) I can rise and SHINE.

10.  Have a consistent bed time.  This is my biggest mistake, skimping on sleep during the week and then playing catch up on the weekends.

9.  Avoid caffeine – I’ve had a Diet Coke habit for years, but when I gave it up I noticed how much caffeine affected me.  Now if I have cup of coffee or tea before bed I’ll spend hours tossing and turning.

8. Sleep in the dark – I love a cool, dark room but hubby likes to bask in the glow of the television tube.  I hear the action on the set even in sleepy land.  After 18 years of marriage, it’s time to invest in ear plugs.

7.  Get plenty of fresh air – Even when I’m sleeping, I need to breath.  Dust and stale air cause congestion and a hang-over headache the morning after.

6.  Don't use the snooze button – 5 minute catnaps don’t leave you more rested.

5.  Stretch - It will get the blood flowing and work out the kinks. The older I get, the more kinks I have.

4.  Exercise – Starting the day with exercise sets the stage for health, productivity and wellbeing.

3.  Start the day with a smile - Just stand in front of the mirror and smile as brightly as you can... 25 times. The physical act of smiling produces endorphins that will give you energy and drive.

2. Take baby steps - Wake up just one minute earlier every day.

1.  Start each day with gratitude.  Every morning my eyes open is a good morning.  In case I forget, I keep a list of things I’m thankful for on my night table and read it each day.
