Here is a random bit of knowledge, but heck it’s my blog so I can be as random as I want to be.  There are hundreds of household items that can serve double duty, but I don’t know of any other product as versatile as toothpaste.   Here are just a few that I’ve tried and it really works.

10.  Before I knew there was a thing called spackle, designed specifically to patch holes in the wall, I would dab a little toothpaste on nail holes.  Instant presto, the holes were gone.

9.  Tarnish remover – great for cleaning silver jewelry though it does get a little goopy.

8.  Anti Itch ointment for bug bites. I’m like a mosquito all-you-can-eat buffet so to keep from going buggy I use toothpaste to stop the itch.

7.  An overnight zit cream.

6.  Stain Remover for clothes or carpet.  The whitening formulas may bleach fabrics, so use the non whitening toothpaste only.

5.  Tennis Shoe cleaner. Just a dab to remove scuff marks from the rubber parts.

4. Bathroom mirror defogger.

3. CD and DVD scratch repair.  If your disc gets stuck or skips, just rub on a little toothpaste and it’ll fill in the scratch.  Be sure you use the non abrasive types only.

2. Removes crayon marks from walls

 1. When my daughter was a baby and her hair was too fine to hold onto a bow, I would just dab in a little toothpaste and it worked like glue.  Toothpaste also works like glue to tack posters to the wall.

I've used toothpaste for years for removing scratches from watch crystals. Just a dab on a paper towel will do it.

I have heard that the whole "smear toothpaste on a scratched CD" trick is actually not true in any way.

Using toothpaste on your walls and to fill holes in walls will cause ants and other bugs to be attracted to that area, the sugar in the toothpaste and other additives are not good for your face, As for the bow in the babies hair use vasoline, and preperation H for zits

Toothpaste on the inside of a scuba mask, then washed off, will prevent steaming up.

7. An overnight zit cream.

Be VERY careful of this so called remedy. Someone told my niece of this hair-brained idea. She did. The next morning her skin was puffy, red, sore and burned! I was horrified to finally learn that she had put toothpaste on her face. She was too embarrassed to tell me initially. Toothpaste has cleaning agents in it not made to go on your skin and if you read the packaging you aren't supposed to swallow it either. Toothpaste isn't supposed to be on your skin or in your mouth for a long period of time. FYI...My niece put Colgate tartar control paste on her face.

I have used crest regular to dry up zits and it works great. Maybe your niece has sensitive skin. Not so hair brained after all.

Anyone who has to dissect anything for a biology or anatomy/physiology type class, use tooth paste to get the smell of the preservative off of your hands (or just wear gloves). Use the toothpaste just like you would normal soap, then rinse well, wash again with regular soap and your hands should smell normal.

absolutely no joke, colgate is the best anti-sunburn ointment on the market. I am an incredibly fair skinned guy, went to destin when i was like 13, used no sunscreen, was out all day on the beach. Got so sunburned it made me begin vomiting and shivering. I tried putting tubes of Aloe Vera in the freezer, this felt good but only lasted for maybe 20 minutes then i had to reapply. I heard about the colgate remedy (I assume other tooth pastes work as well), put some on my arms and neck, and literally only had to reapply maybe once a day. It makes you smell funny, but oh my god is it soothing.

Use toothpaste as a substitute for shaving cream.

Be careful though, if you you cut yourself it stings like f***.

I learned that using toothpaste to remove the stinger from a bee sting works well, and it helps with the pain and swelling as well. Just a dab on a finger, and wipe the stinger off, and leave the residue on the sting for a bit.

For the zit thing, you're only supposed to leave it on 15 minutes, then wash it off.

If you've been chopping garlic or onions, you can lather your hands with some toothpaste to get the smell off your skin.

I wouldn't use it as shaving cream - it would irritate broken skin badly. Conditioner is much better. Actually, conditioner is better than shaving cream - it leaves your skin silky smooth.

Toothpaste will also remove surface scratches and scrapes from car bodies. Even if a little paint from whatever you rubbed against is on the top of your paint. Just uses a damp rag with a little toothpaste and it works like expensive rubbing compound. I was able to amaze my mother with this trick. It also works on most plastic surfaces too, like plexiglass windows on boats.

I had a terrible sunburn on both arms and started searching for something to use. Didn't have an Aloe available. Looked on the Internet for some other solution and happen to think about this Colgate Aloe Shaving Cram I had in the bathroom from a long time ago. Used it on both arms and OH DID IT EVER HELP!!! Try it! Its not just for shaving it does work...please try it.

If you mix toothpaste into the food you are cooking, then you can eat and clean your teeth at the same time.
