God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number;
fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the
birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the
ground." - Genesis 1:28
We are to be fruitful and multiply.
We must receive from God--His love, His mercy, His grace, His
blessings--before we can be fruitful and be a blessing on this Earth.
Do you remember the story about how Jesus wanted to wash Peter's feet (John 13)? Peter refused.
"Jesus answered, 'Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.'" (John 13:8).
Peter had to receive from Jesus before he could do great works for the Lord.
What about Jacob? On his way to Laban's house, he told the Lord, "If
God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking
and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return
safely to my father's house, then the LORD will be my God and this
stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, and of all
that you give me I will give you a tenth" (Genesis 28:20-22).
Jacob received from the Lord, then gave back to Him ten percent. Not out of obligation. Out of love.
We must receive from God, so we can give to others and God out of abundance. Not out of obligation. Out of love.
Jesus is happy when we receive all He died to give us.
