Rihanna’s first album in 2005 was called Music of the Sun. It had two hit singles “Pon de Replay” and “If It’s Lovin’ That You Want”. “Pon De Replay was more successful than “If It’s Lovin’ That You Want”. Rihanna’s second album A Girl Like Me released in 2006 had four hit singles “SOS”, “Unfaithful”, “We Ride” and “Break it Off”. The next year (2007) Rihanna released her third album called Good Girl Gone Bad. With five hit singles “Umbrella”, “Shut Up and Drive”, “Don’t Stop The Music”, “Hate That I Love You” and “Take A Bow”. She just keeps releasing more and more hit singles as she goes on.
Rihanna truly is an amazing vocalist. I am not sure I like her as an artist because I do not like a lot of her songs. Such as “Umbrella”, “Shut Up and Drive”, and “Don’t Stop the Music” etc... They seem to sound like the same song. She kind of repeats a sound consistently in her songs. Not like she repeats a lyric, she repeats a sound. Like in “Umbrella” she said “Under my Umbrella ella ella eh eh eh”. In “Shut Up and Drive” she said “Shut up and drive ive ive ive” and in “Don’t Stop The Music” she sings “Please don’t stop the music usic usic usic”. I think that she was so successful in “Umbrella” that she decided to do that in every song of hers. I got to admit I did like “Umbrella” when it first came out but than it was too much. Like I heard it on the radio every five minutes, and it was all over t.v., and when she was the face for CoverGirl it played all the time, I even heard playing all the time in stores. It was over produced and it was everywhere which made it annoying. But it worked for her, she sold millions of copies.
Some songs I do like by Rihanna are “Take A Bow”, “Unfaithful” and “Hate That I Love You”. “Take A Bow” is simple but classy at the same time. She doesn’t over do anything in the song. “Unfaithful” she has a powerful voice and it shines though the lyrics and the music. “Hate That I Love You” is featuring Ne-Yo so I might like it just because he is in it. Nah, just kidding. It is a cute sort of romantic song. Can’t help but sing a long and smile while you are listening to it.
I like
Rihanna because like I said she is an amazing vocalist. She just isn’t an artist in my mind yet. She has the potential to be an artist if she produces better songs in the future. I think she sings excellent in all of her songs but it is the lyrics that I don’t care for. She is better than that.
