The sky is the limit for this promising young team (in my opinion), They have a great young running back in Marshawn Lynch, they have a promising young quarterback in Trent Edwards, and they have a defense capable of becoming one of the best in the league. Dick Jauron is not my favorite, I witnessed some of his ineptitude in Chicago a few years back, but he is a defensive minded coach and I think he has some nice tools on this team to keep the ball rolling in a positive direction. Its unfortunate that they are in the AFC and have a tougher path to the playoffs but its definitely a possible path if they continue to improve upon their mediocre success last year.
The Bills have #11 slot in this year's draft and despite having a weak #2 receiver slot I agree with the majority of the experts and say the Bills go defense. Defense in Jauron's strength and this Bills defense if they improve a little will be one of the most dominating defenses in the NFL. Mike Jenkins, the corner out of South Florida is the best corner available at this slot. He is a shutdown corner and should further improve Jauron's stout defense. I think they address their #2 receiver issues in the 2nd round as this corner is too good to pass up.
Fantasy Top 5
1. Marshawn Lynch RB- Easily the best fantasy player on this team. His excellent rookie year was stuck in the shadow of Adrian Peterson but over 1100 yards on the ground, another 184 via the air, and 8 touchdowns (one passing td via a trick play) was not a bad rookie year, especially with defenses keying in on him as the Bills never had a consistent air assault last year.
2. Lee Evans WR- Evans was the main victim to the QB carousel last year. He had some good games but 849 yards and 5 touchdowns was not what fantasy owners expected. I don't see him regaining his glory of 2 years ago but I think he improves as he grows with Edwards behind center. Evans might be a late steal as I predict 1,000+ yards and 7 touchdowns next year.
3. Trent Edwards QB- A definite wildcard who should be available very late in the draft. With a solid defense and Lynch behind him Edwards should have a nice chance to put together a good year. He might be worth a look near the end of the draft.
4. Buffalo Bills Defense- Although the stats aren't very dominating this defense showed a lot of potential last year and in what should have been a rebuilding year for the defense accrued 5 defensive touchdowns (18 picks, only 25 sacks, 12 fumbles recovered). Not a stellar year but under Jauron's leadership these young players should improve. Don't overpay (as many do for a good defense) but don't overlook this D either.
5. Robert Royal TE- This blocking tight end actually was third on the Bills in touchdowns scored (25-248-3). I wouldn't want him as a starter but he's a very nice sleeper that you can get great value and who knows if he might blossom as Edwards should have more experience under his belt next year.
