Parcells and the Dolphins had a very solid draft, surprising some when they took Offensive Tackle Jake Long out of Michigan with the first overall pick in the draft. The also picked up a nice presence at DE in Phillip Merling and a possible starting QB in Chad Henne in case Josh McCown and John Beck don't work out well this rebuilding year.
The Dolphins are in for a tough upcoming year, about the only good thing that resulted from this atrocious season was the fact that Bill Parcells (new VP of Football Ops) was brought in to get this team moving in the right direction. Parcells might not be Mr. Nice Guy but everywhere he has been the teams have improved greatly (Giants, Pattriots of old, Jets, Cowboys). I do not foresee any huge improvement next year but in a few years I think its possible for these Dolphins to not be a bye week anymore to its opponents in the near future. Parcells has gotten rid of Cam Cameron, not a huge loss but has replaced him relatively unknown Tony Sparano (no not Tony Soprano and yes that joke will get old real quick next year). Sparano has 20+ years of NFL coaching experience but never has been a head coach. Parcells seems to be getting a lot of his old coaches from Dallas to defect over to Miami but it will be interesting to see how well that works. Although I do have to say based on Parcells track record and his history with many of these coaches he is most likely putting together an excellent coaching staff.
Update 2/16: MLB Zach Thomas has recently been cut to help with the salary cap.
Update 3/17: Cleo Lemon has been signed by the Jaguars where he will back up David Garrard currently leaving John Beck at the helm for now. 2008 NFL Draft Picks: 1. OT Jake Long Michigan 2.
